TRIAGE TECHNICIAN

Position Summary: At Mallatt’s Pharmacy, our Triage Technician possesses a range of strengths from computer savvy to people skills. The ability to effectively listen and communicate is vital, as the job involves coordinating with the public, patients, and doctors. Our Triage Technician must be professional, polite and well organized. 

Responsibilities and Duties 

  • Welcomes customers, clients, vendors and visitors, in person or on the telephone; answering or referring inquiries
  • Retrieve messages from voice mail and forward to appropriate personnel or department
  • Take and deliver messages or transfer calls to voicemail when appropriate personnel are unavailable
  • “Triage” incoming faxes by labeling them and routing them to correct departments or personnel using document management software
  • Keep visitors appointments on schedule by notifying appropriate team member of arrival and providing proper documentation requested
  • Data entry of patient/facility information and prescription orders
  • Customer service (i.e., receiving and processing order requests), contacting hospitals and clinics
  • Assist management as needed
  • Protect patient rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal information
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills 

  • Able to manage difficult or emotional customer/vendor telephone calls
  • Writes clearly and informatively; able to read and interpret written information
  • Great customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to operate a multi-line telephone and fax system
  • Basic computer skills including email, word, excel, google
  • Knowledge of document management software is a plus
  • Ability to multi-task

Experience 

  • Pharmacy experience-preferred

Education

  • High School Diploma/GED Equivalent

Professional Licenses/Certifications 

  • CPhT-certified (preferred)

Physical Job Requirements 

  • Wearing a headset and/or using a handset phone system
  • Able to listen and transcribe messages from doctors, nurses, facility staff and customers
  • Sitting for 6-8 hours
  • Having a range of motion from kneeling, to bending over to raising arms above head to retrieve stock
  • Lifting and/or carrying up to 40 lbs
  • Reading fine and/or small print
  • Working off a computer screen for 1-8 hours per day

Work Status 

  • Full Time
  • Monday-Friday, hours ranging from 8:00am and 6:30pm
  • Possible Saturday, 9:00am-5:00opm (depending on company need)
  • Possible Sunday, 9:00am-5:00pm (depending on company need)
  • Possible holiday (on call) if there is a company need
