Prescription Management Technician

Position Summary: The prescription Management Technician will initiate refill authorization requests on non-controlled orders and manage incoming responses. This includes, but not limited to: auditing outgoing requests against incoming authorizations; following up on non-responses; problem-solving discrepancies; entering authorizations and assists in expediting prescription processing by performing in accordance with established pharmacy principles, policies and procedures and/or law.


  • Process refill requests from facilities
  • Manages phone calls from doctor offices and facilities
  • Follow-up on non-responses for refills
  • Problem solve-discrepancies
  • Initiate proactive requests for refills
  • Assist with inputting of authorizations
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results
  • Contributes to maintain a safe and clean pharmacy by complying with procedures, rules and regulations
  • Other duties inherent to pharmacy operations, as needed

Required Skills: 

  • Typing and/or data entry skills, 40/wpm
  • Computer, email, fax and scan knowledge
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Possess office skills, such as answering phones and filling

  • One to two years of experience in a related field; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Pharmacy experience preferred
  • Have knowledge of pharmacy practices and medications (brand vs. generic vs. over the counter)
  • Knowledge of HIPPA and PHI
  • CPhT Preferred
  • Experience in healthcare field a plus


  • High School Diploma/GED Equivalent

Professional Licenses/Certifications: 

  • CPhT preferred

Physical Job Requirements: 

  • Sitting for 6-8 hours
  • Having a range of motion from kneeling, to bending over to raising arms above head to retrieve stock
  • Lifting and/or carrying up to 40 lbs.
  • Reading find and/or small print
  • Working off a computer screen for 6-8 hours a day
  • Answering phone calls

Work Status: 

  • Full-time
  • Monday-Friday 8:30am-6:30pm
