Medical Records Assistant

Position Summary: Assist the Medical Records Specialist with organizing and managing health information data by ensuring its quality, accuracy, accessibility, and security in both paper and electronic systems. Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Review patient records for timeliness, completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulations
  • Enter relevant client medical information electronically
  • Compile, track and record Medicare, NOPP, and HIPAA documentation
  • Electronically record data for collection, storage, analysis, retrieval, and reporting
  • Maintain daily communication with various facilities, physicians, and healthcare professionals to update patient demographics and maintain diagnosis codes
  • Triage medical records queue
  • Reconcile resident rosters
  • Print end-of-day records for various facilities
  • Assist with monthly printing of client records
  • Electronically maintain, update, and clear queues for medical records
  • Protect patients’ health information for confidentiality, authorized access for treatment, and data security
  • Assist with Script Management
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills:

  • Strong data entry/computer processing skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Office skills such as answering phones typing a minimum of 40/wpm
  • Basic computer skills including email, spreadsheets, internet searches, etc.
  • Ability to communicate via phone, e-fax, and e-mail with various clients regarding personal healthcare information
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, occasionally stressful environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

NOTE: Background check, pre-employment drug screen and typing test are required.

Desired Skills:

  • Medical terminology, preferred
  • Knowledge in Anatomy and Physiology, a plus
  • Experience in healthcare field, a plus
  • Data entry experience, preferred
  • DocuTrack software, a plus
  • Knowledge of Google Drive, a plus
  • Knowledge of Open Office software, a plus

Education and Experience:

  • One year certificate from college or technical school in a related field; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • High School Diploma/GED

Physical Job Requirements:

  • Sitting and/or standing for up to 8 hours
  • Having a range of motion from kneeling, to bending over, to raising arms above head to retrieve stock
  • Lifting and/or carrying up to 40lbs
  • Reading fine and/or small print
  • Working off a computer screen for up to 8 hours a day

Work Status:

  • Full Time
  • Monday-Friday 8:00am-7:00pm
